4-H Tech Team from Arkansas visits CUCE-NYC
May 2, 2006
The visitors get a taste of New York City 4-H technology programming
On May 1st, a 4-H Tech Team of 12 youth from Arkansas visited CUCE-NYC to learn about 4-H in New York City.
The group was visiting sites throughout the area "to reinforce their project focus on technology," their leader, Willa Williams, explained.
Don Tobias (Executive Director) met with the youth. He related some local flavor, and spoke of New York City's uniqueness in terms of its makeup, and its communities. Lucinda Randolph-Benjamin, Philson Warner, and N'Geri Mitchell (Extension Associates) provided the visitors with a taste of New York City 4-H technology programming. The 4-H Tech Team from Arkansas learned about science and technology projects such as the Hydroponics Learning Model (HLM) and Grow with the Flow hydroponics programs, as well as the Agilent Hands-on Science initiative, and the New York City 4-H Youth Favorite Places GIS/GPS projects.
The visitors shared information about some of their own technology-related 4-H projects, such as Astronomy, Photography, Robotics, Environmental Stewardship with GIS, and Internet Safety.
A learning exchange between Arkansas and New York City 4-Hers was proposed for the group's next visit to the Big Apple in 2007.
CUCE-NYC staff receive many requests to host visitors, and look forward to being able to host more visits from youth from other locations in the future.
