Urban Youth Explore Governors Island
The informal experiential youth education program draws on university resources to reach neighborhood youth in community agencies, schools, churches, or any type of informal group setting through Clubs, the Youth Council, Special Interest Groups, Independent 4-Hers and Volunteers.
CUCE-NYC youth development specialists design projects and bring together resources in the program areas of Community & Economic Development, Family & Youth Development, Nutrition & Health, Urban Food Systems and The Urban Environment to develop competencies and skills in youth through age appropriate activities.
4-H programs seek to:
- Strengthen the foundation skills of youth in literacy, science, technology and math
- Broaden the base of youth experiences in the areas of nutrition & health, community & economic development, environmental education, urban food systems, and workforce development
- Enhance the personal development of youth and build youth leadership skills, including communication, problem solving, decision making, self management
- Assist youth in the exploration of college, careers and alternative education opportunities
- Increase the positive interaction between youth and diverse caring adults
- Explore opportunities to exercise & integrate learned knowledge and skills through events, internships and community service opportunities
