Overview | New Market Development | Emergency Food Provision | Extension Education & Demonstration Farming
New Market Development
CUCE-NYC strengthens neighborhood food security through increased access to locally-grown produce and healthy, nutritious foods.
New Market Development has three main goals:
- Community sustainability
- Food production
- Accessibility
Resources, partnerships, and collaborations (public and private) at city, state, and national levels provide support.
Partnering with East NY Farms!
East NY Farms! is an intercity market in Brooklyn, where urban youth and adult entrepreneurs sell locally-grown products side by side with upstate New York farmers. In test trials last year, youth helped grow bitter melon for Caribbean customers.

Partnering with Added Value
Added Value is about growing youth as well as growing food, and nurtures a new generation of young leaders through an urban farming enterprise located in Red Hook, Brooklyn. As part of this program, youth conducted a community food assessment (CFA) to help move Red Hook towards greater food security.
Partnering with Urban Oasis
Urban Oasis is a horticultural business and agricultural initiative of Kingsboro Psychiatric Center in Brooklyn. Urban Oasis utilizes "real job" work experience as horticultural therapy. Produce grown on-site is sold along with New York State farm-grown products at a weekly farmer's market at the Center.
