Urban Food Systems
Implementing programs that develop, support, and maintain viable urban food systems by partnering with organizations that seek access to foods produced by local urban growers and regionally by New York State and Northeastern farmers.
- Partnering with urban organizations on growing and marketing produce; developing farmers' markets; and identifying other marketing opportunities via the New Farmers/New Markets Program
- Educating youth and adults in the application of innovative science technologies that improve food quality, production, and sustainability, such as hydroponics and aquaculture
- Recruiting and training new immigrants in market oriented agriculture in the Northeast via the New Farmer Development Project
- Creating networks of regional producers, educators, and researchers statewide to increase marketing opportunities in New York City
